My Cat Has Diabetes

You may recall that last week I took my cat in to the vet because he had been losing weight.  Well, it turns out that Boswell, my cat, has feline diabetes.  When I saw the vet earlier this week he showed me his blood results and his glucose level was 654!  The normal range, in case you’re wondering is between 90-100, so it’s no wonder my cat isn’t doing well.

My vet gave me some prescription cat food which is very high in protein so that we can see if that will fix Boswell.  We’re going to try that for a week and then see if his blood has changed.  If not, then I’ll have to give him shots.

So there, now you know.  This I can say for sure, I love my cat dearly, and will take care of him until I have to bury him.

Logos, Paul Washer and More

It’s FRIDAY! :)

This has been a very good week for me as I have had numerous opportunities to work, hear the word of God and study the bible in my quiet times. One thing I was doing this morning is taking in a few sermons given by Paul Washer. This man is a great preacher and teacher. In fact, I could spend all day today listening to all of his sermons if I had the time. But I don’t…which is a bummer.

If you really want to hear a few sermons that are actually biblical and convicting, click here to visit HeartCry Ministries and download Paul’s podcast feed. I listened to a sermon last night entitled “Examine yourselves” – and it was by far just about the best message I have heard in at least a decade.

In fact, as I have contemplated the message and thought about American Christianity….or rather Christianity in America, and especially the Christian publishing industry, it’s quite amazing to consider that most of the books put out are all relatively self help books. The books are really more about us, than Jesus. Few of the books are theological in nature, and few offer any deep biblical substance.

I think this is why some really enjoy reading the old time preachers and also enjoy reading and singing hymns. I have to admit that this past Easter Sunday was interesting for me, because it was the first time I can remember ever attending a service where there was not one hymn sung. I really missed singing “Up from the grave He Arose…” but apparently hymns aren’t the “in” thing in my church these days. Yet the hymns are so rich theologically. In fact, it was funny to meet this elderly lady on Sunday and watch her as she sat through the relatively loud rock praise service. I am wondering if she’ll be back this Sunday.

Anyway, that aside I also wanted to tell you about my recent purchase of Logos Bible Software. I was watching Kay Arthur’s podcast “Precepts for Life” and she had a three day discussion about Logos Bible Software and so I checked it out. When I say that you could get a 25% discount on any of the packages I did a search online first to see if I could get it cheaper, and when I found that I couldn’t, I bought the Logos Bible Software Scholar edition. It was only about $515.00 which isn’t a bad investment over a lifetime, and then I had to buy some Parallel software so I can use it on my Mac. Then I have to install a version of MS Word so that I can use it. So it will probably cost me a few hundred more before all is said and done, which as I said earlier, is not too bad considering it’s a lifetime investment.

Which brings me to one of the reasons I got the software – I’m doing a word study on a fascinating topic, which I will reveal later. Needless to say, it’s FASCINATING.

I’ll be back later with more info on this subject.
